It’s Like Living In Alice In Wonderland

When you don’t have to try to believe 6 impossible things before breakfast because they are happening in front of your eyes, you know you might have landed in Wonderland.

Which is exciting. And I am only talking about taking a walk outside and looking at nature. This is what happened during a walk on Sunday - ok it was after breakfast but before lunch.

I had never seen snow smoking before. I had never seen how a river freezes over.

Stream freezing over in Umeå

I had never seen anyone fishing out of a tiny hole in the ice, with a fishing rod less than 50 cm long.

I hadn’t seen sunrises that start 2h before the sun hits the horizon. I had never seen roads so white with snow despite cars running on them. And I did not know where they were putting the snow they take out of the ground so you can walk on the path. I also didn’t realise they don’t remove all the snow, they compact it so you can walk on it without sinking in it. And they make little hills on the side of the roads, at the corner of the house, where you don’t need to walk. I didn’t know ducks could swim in freezing waters. I had never seen a Bohemian waxwing before.

Getting to experience these amazing things is a privilege and something I want to be able to revisit when I become accustomed to them. I enjoy the possibility of asking new questions and challenging what I thought was possible.

I can’t wait to see what else I will discover tomorrow.
